Paula Burton

Paula Burton - In Memory of
Principal Dancer - Scottsdale, AZ

AZDance Group, the Jazzercise world, the dance world and Paula’s friends lost a wonderful light this August 2014. Paula brought love, light, compassion, hard-work and “just do it & get it done” to so many things. We will continue to bring her memory to the forefront at every rehearsal, showcase and performance along with friendly gatherings and outings. We give thanks each day that through AZDance Group, Paula introduced each one of us to new people and faces, her sister Lynne Judah Hoffner, her wonderful husband John Burton and her lovely dogs.

Paula Burton began dancing at the age of five and by nine joined the Ballet Guild of the Lehigh Valley in Bethlehem, PA. In 1981 she joined Ballet Pacifica (founder/director Lila Zali) and as principle of that company, performed classical ballets (Nutcracker, Lise in Fille Mal Gardee, Les Sylphides). In 1993 she 'retired from dance’, Paula became a certified Jazzercise instructor and for over 10 years, teaching for five or so years here, throughout the valley as one of the most beloved teachers. She came to AZDance Group’s A Joyous Christmas performance in 2008, found the director in the lobby after the concert and asked how she could audition as she loved what she saw in us. Since the spring of 2009, Paula has been a vibrant part of our dance family and not having her on stage with us, leaves a big hole in our hearts, though we dance with happiness for her. In August, Paula transitioned to a dancing angel after three years of being “Paula Strong” with Pancreatic cancer. Paula was married for 21 years to John Burton.
